Tottenham ready to swoop for ‘special’ player in January window
Harry Redknapp would consider signing a "special" player in January but says a move for Carlos Tevez is unlikely
Harry Redknapp insists funds will be made available should he want to strengthen his Tottenham Hotspur squad by signing a “special” player in January.
Spurs have recently been linked with a swoop for Manchester City outcast Carlos Tevez – but although Redknapp says a move for the Argentine is unlikely, he has refused to rule out bringing in other reinforcements in January.
“If someone came along who we thought was special and could make a difference, we’d go for him,” said Redknapp.
“[Tevez] a special player who could make the difference but I wouldn’t think that’s a possibility.”
He added: “The chairman [Daniel Levy] would back me all the way if we felt it was someone who could take us that extra little bit forward. But finding them is very difficult, there aren’t many around like that.”
Redknapp also laughed off suggestions that big-money bids could tempt Tottenham into selling Luka Modric or Gareth Bale.
“No way on earth will they be for sale ““ not a chance,” Redknapp is quoted as having said in the Daily Mirror. “I don’t think the chairman would accept any offer. We are looking to keep pushing on as we’ve been on a great run and we are bang in there.
“There are six teams in my opinion and all are very close to the top. It’s a challenge to make the top four and any of them six have a chance of winning it.”
