Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted that he feels under no extra pressure to perform against Barcelona ahead of Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey clash with the Spanish champions on Wednesday.

José Mourinho’s side host the Catalan giants for the first leg of their quarter-final tie following Barça’s 3-1 La Liga win over Madrid in their Primera División meeting in December.

Ronaldo, who nodded home the winner that sealed Real’s cup victory over Barcelona in last season’s final, has often been criticised for being outshone by Lionel Messi in the recent El Clásicos – but the 26-year-old is unperturbed and insists he will approach Wednesday’s game like any other.

“I always try to relax before a game. The pressure doesn’t get to me. I try to stay positive and always see new challenges. My mental strength is very important to me,” Ronaldo told DT magazine.

“I just want to win every game and play well. That’s always my goal; put in a good performance and get a good result. I don’t mind who the opponent is because my motivation will always be the same.

“When you’re happy and enjoying your football, you only want good things to happen to the team and have fun.”

Real currently lead second-placed Barcelona by five points in the race for this year’s La Liga title.
