Joe Hart: Manchester City are just targeting a victory over United
Joe Hart insists Manchester City are focused on winning and not sending out a message ahead of their showdown with United
Joe Hart insists Manchester City are not setting out to make a statement in their FA Cup third-round showdown with fierce rivals Manchester United – and that Roberto Mancini’s side are just targeting a victory.
City are three points clear of United at the top of the Premier League table and following their stunning 6-1 victory at Old Trafford in October, many believe Mancini’s men are on course to knock the Red Devils off their perch.
But Hart is not interested in claims that Sunday’s tie is a chance for the FA Cup holders to prove there has been a power shift in English football.
“I am not bothered about statements – I am bothered about winning the game on Sunday,” said the City goalkeeper. “We want to win every game, regardless of what cup it is in. If you do win every game you win trophies, and that is what we want.”
The 24-year-old accepts that United will be looking to avenge their league defeat but he believes previous results are meaningless ahead of this weekend’s clash.
“Of course they do [want revenge] but that is for them to feel,” Hart said. “We have got to focus on our game. But it has gone, and it has gone for them as well because they have produced some great form since.
“It is nice for the fans to have those memories and those bragging rights but as far as the players are concerned that has gone. Sunday is another big game.”
