Kenny Dalglish hails Liverpool’s ‘fantastic’ victory over Man United
Kenny Dalglish thrilled with Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Manchester United as Reds move into FA Cup fifth round
Kenny Dalglish could not hide his delight after Liverpool snatched a dramatic late victory over fierce rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup fourth round at Anfield on Saturday.
Dirk Kuyt scored a 87th-minute winner after United midfielder Park Ji-Sung had cancelled out Daniel Agger’s opener just before half-time.
Dalglish lavished praise on his players after they bounced back from last weekend’s demoralising defeat by Bolton Wanderers with victories over Manchester City and United to book their place in the Carling Cup final and move into the next round of the FA Cup.
“The week started badly for us at Bolton and it’s fantastic credit to the players and how much pride they take in this football club to get themselves back on track as quickly as they did,” said Dalglish.
“It was a fantastic effort from our players after what they went through on Wednesday night. To ask them to come back and play on the Saturday morning was maybe pushing it a bit far but their commitment, their attitude and their desire to get a result was fantastic.
“I can’t speak highly enough of them after that performance and result today.”
And Dalglish reserved particular praise for Andy Carroll, who played a part in both of Liverpool’s goals despite failing to get on the scoresheet.
“He is good in the air but we’ve got to develop that, he’s got to develop that to work within our framework,” Dalglish added.
“We’ve got to work with him and we’ll be a lot more patient than a lot of other people will, and I’m sure we’ll get our rewards in the end. And we’re starting to bear fruits now.”
