January will be pivotal month for Man City title bid, claims Mancini
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini knows January will be a crucial month in his side's bid for their first top-flight title since
Roberto Mancini believes that the Manchester City will be well-placed to secure their first top-flight title since 1968 this term – if they can stay top of the league through January.
City pulled three points clear of derby rivals Manchester United following their 3-0 victory over Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, and Mancini has now called on his side to focus ahead of a crucial month for his side.
“January is a big month for us and I think if we can come out on the top of the Premier League, I think we will have a very good chance to win [the title],” Mancini said.
The Eastlands outfit will have to cope without the services of midfielder Yaya Touré for a number of weeks as the Ivory Coast international departs, along with his brother Kolo, for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Italian manager admitted the midfielder will be a big loss to his side and confirmed he will leave for Africa following City’s FA Cup clash with Manchester United this weekend.
“I have tried to find another Yaya in my squad, but there isn’t another Yaya,” he said. “He will play against United on Sunday and then he will join the Ivory Coast. Without Yaya and Kolo for several weeks, it will be hard.”
Mancini was thrilled with his side’s display in their victory over Kenny Dalglish’s side. “I was very happy with the way we played against Liverpool,” he said. “We deserved to win, but we also deserved to win against Sunderland, where we played very well, too ““ sometimes football is crazy.”
