Tottenham 2 Everton 0: Spurs can challenge for the title – Redknapp
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp upbeat over his side's title chances after they won their game in hand against Everton
Harry Redknapp insisted Tottenham are title contenders after watching his side cruise past Everton to move level on points with second-placed Manchester United.
Aaron Lennon gave Spurs a first-half lead when he took down Benoit Assou-Ekotto’s long pass and fired a low shot past Tim Howard in the 35th minute.
Assou-Ekotto then made the points safe after the break with a stunning long-range strike, which flew into the top-right corner after taking a slight deflection off Tim Cahill.
“We’re up there,” said Redknapp, whose side are now just three points behind leaders Manchester City. “We’re in the Champions League mix and looking and who knows? Nothing’s impossible, you have to keep believing.
“I enjoy the way we play – If you don’t enjoy the way we play, then you shouldn’t be watching football.”
Michael Dawson, who made his first appearance for Spurs in the league since August at White Hart Lane on Wednesday, admitted he was thrilled to be back in action following a lengthy lay-off with an Achilles injury.
“I’m delighted to be back playing and to get the three points and go joint second in the table, the lads were fantastic tonight,” he said. “We always needed a second goal to make it more comfortable, because they came on strong towards the end.”
