Rafael van der Vaart has laughed off speculation linking him with a January move away from Tottenham Hotspur – and insists no other Spurs players are seeking an exit.

Gareth Bale and Luka Modrić’s White Hart Lane futures appear to be the subjects of constant speculation but the Dutch forward says the Spurs stars have no reason to leave.

Third-placed Tottenham can close the gap to joint leaders Manchester City and Manchester United to just two points with victory over West Brom on Tuesday – and Van der Vaart is convinced Harry Redknapp’s side are on the verge of “something special”.

“It’s not true that I could be leaving in January,” he said. “Of course there are rumours when you are third in the table and you play good football.

“People are always going to look and they are interested in the players of Tottenham, but this season nobody wants to leave, we are close to something special.

“Of course I want to stay here. Everybody feels that we have a great team and it is really fun to play here – we have big players, experienced players and Harry [Redknapp] is doing a great job.”
