Is it time for Arsenal to sell the erratic Theo Walcott?

Time to get rid of Walcott?

Should Arsenal bin the erratic Theo Walcott and sign someone better this summer?

If a club offered £10m for the England international this summer it would be wise to accept because the forward is sub-standard.

The 22-year-old will only have a year left on his contract and despite being a first team regular this season, he has hardly done much to convince Arsene Wenger he’s the finished product.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain already looks the player Walcott should always have been – despite the more experienced former Southampton winger having been at Arsenal since 2006.

He has flattered to deceive time and time again, while against Milan in midweek he was categorically poor.

Walcott has spoken about leaving the Emirates this summer because he wants to win trophies but he’s the very reason why Arsenal haven’t.

He’s so inconsistent, so injury-plagued. Arsenal supporters have been patient with Walcott because he’s English and the club has had few home-grown players for the best part of six or seven years – but many have run out of love for the flying winger.

Villas-Boas’ handling of Torres was embarrassing

Andre Villas-Boas’ decision to substitute Fernando Torres at half-time in the 1-1 draw with Birmingham City all but signalled the end of the Spaniard’s Chelsea career.

Torres did nothing right in a woeful first half all round for the Blues – but will now be ridiculed in the media and blamed for the display.

Didier Drogba, on the other hand, will be lauded as the club’s saviour having galvanised the troops after being introduced at the interval.

It was a panic move by Villas-Boas and he has effectively put the final nail in Torres’ Chelsea coffin. It once again highlights his poor man-management and shows why he is not the man to lead the club into the next era.

Torres has consistently failed since his £50m move to Stamford Bridge but making him feel special instead of the scapegoat was always key to him turning it around – something Villas-Boas consistently failed to realise.

Villas-Boas makes questionable substitutions

Villas-Boas’ time as manager of Chelsea is running out – and those arguing differently need only watch highlights of Saturday’s game with Birmingham.

It’s so easy for the pundits and outsiders to claim Villas-Boas needs time but it won’t be long until Roman Abramovich faces facts and concedes he’s not up to the job.

Chelsea were abject against a well organised, and impressive Birmingham outfit. There was no fizz, creativity or passion – and that comes down to the manager.

His decision to substitute Torres at half-time was embarrassing. Of course Drogba’s introduction was warranted but with Chelsea chasing the game, Villas-Boas needed to add to Chelsea’s attacking threat not take off a striker.

With big tests in the Premier League to come Chelsea need to sort things out and Villas-Boas is not the man to do it.
