Mancini hails Johnson display after Man City cruise past Fulham
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini full of praise for Adam Johnson's performance after watching his side ease past Fulham
Roberto Mancini has heaped praise on Adam Johnson after his impressive display helped Manchester City cruise to a 3-0 win over Fulham and move three points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Johnson won the early penalty that Sergio Aguero fired home to put City one up, and created the home side’s second when his cross-shot was inadvertently turned home by Chris Baird.
Edin Dzeko’s 72nd-minute strike then completed the scoring for Mancini’s men as they pulled clear of Manchester United, who travel to Chelsea on Sunday.
“I am pleased for Adam today because he took his chance very well,” said Mancini. “We all know what a fantastic player he is and he knows he can become even better, but he worked and had a very good game.
“Edin Dzeko did very well too, and played for the team. I was happy with everyone from the defence to the strikers.”
“I am very pleased because this wasn’t easy and Fulham are a very good side with a fantastic, experienced manager. The guys gave a very good display; we scored three goals and didn’t concede any.
“It’s always good to score an early goal because you can take control of the game, which I thought we did today and I was happy that two of the goals were scored by our strikers.”
Asked who he will be routing for when Manchester United travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Mancini said: “Who will I support? I will support Manchester City, of course! I don’t think our win will put pressure on United because they are used to it.
“We can only worry about what we do and we have to keep winning and try and win every game we play.”
