Six Nations 2012: Saint-Andre wanted to play France-Ireland tie

France head coach Phillipe Saint-Andre admitted he felt sorry for the disappointed France and Ireland supporters in Paris

France head coach Phillipe Saint-Andre admitted he wanted to play the Six Nations tie between France and Ireland at Stade De France on Saturday night.

A decision to postpone the match was taken minutes before kick-off in Paris and tournament officials backed the decision of referee Dave Pearson.

But Saint-Andre admitted he felt sorry for the France and Ireland supporters, who were left disappointed by the game’s cancellation.

“We are sorry,” he said. “We were ready to play and we had one more rest day than the Irish. So we really wanted to play. But we must respect the decision of the referee, and wait to find out from the organisers, when the match will take place.

“We would prefer to play next weekend, because if it is three weeks time, we would have to play four matches in quick succession.

“For the player, for their intensity and also thinking of their family life, to spend time with their wives and children.”
