Arsenal’s Robin van Persie ‘bullies’ keepers, says Wojciech Szczesny
Wojciech Szczesny admits the goalscoring exploits of Arsenal captain Robin van Persie can embarrass goalkeepers
Wojciech Szczesny believes Arsenal captain Robin van Persie has been “bullying” goalkeepers with his exploits in front of goal this season.
The 28-year-old striker scored twice in Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday, with the Gunners captain’s superb late volleyed winner earning the plaudits.
That goal took Van Persie’s tally to 31 goals for the season in all competitions and put Arsenal in pole position to win the race for fourth spot.
And Szczesny, who has established himself as Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper, concedes that his fellow shot-stoppers in the English top flight can do very little to halt the prolific goalscorer.
“We get bullied, I am not going to lie,” the 21-year-old told Arsenal’s website. “He is a goalscorer, he gets plenty of them in training and plenty of goals in games. It is quite embarrassing sometimes.
“But there is nothing you can do. When you play against players like him you just want to be at your best and that is how you can improve.”
