Ashley Young praises resilient Man United after White Hart Lane win
Ashley Young praises Manchester United’s ability to win games without playing well after beating Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Ashley Young has hailed Manchester United’s team spirit after the Red Devils eased to a 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Wayne Rooney handed United a narrow lead against the run of play just before half-time, and Young cemented the visitors’ lead with a spectacular quick-fire double after the interval.
Substitute Jermain Defoe managed to score a late consolation for Spurs, but Young believes the result highlights United’s ability to claim maximum points from the most difficult of situations.
“As long as we stay as a team and a solid unit, which we did out there, then we know we can get a goal,” Young told United’s website.
“We nicked one in the first-half and then came out and got another two. We weren’t at our best in the first-half, but we went 1-0 up and went on the front foot in the second half.
“All of the players knew that we weren’t playing to our full potential. We had to show it in the second half and we did well to get the two goals and the three points.
“We felt comfortable when the second goal went in. We just wanted to go on and we knew we could get more goals. We knew if we kept on working hard then we’ll get a third and we did that.”
United are two points behind league leaders Manchester City following the win in north London, and the 26-year-old winger insisted the Red Devils are not getting carried away.
“We are taking each as they come. We knew it was going to be a tough game and we are just happy to get the three points.”
