Redknapp: No mass exodus if Tottenham miss out on top four

Harry Redknapp does not believe Tottenham Hotspur run the risk of losing their best players if they fail to finish in the top four

Harry Redknapp has insisted Tottenham Hotspur do not need a fourth-place finish to prevent the club’s best players leaving in the summer.

Spurs have suffered successive league defeats by Everton, Manchester United and Arsenal, leaving Redknapp’s side just a point ahead of Arsenal in third position.

The Londoners’ poor run of form has prompted speculation suggesting key members of their squad could seek an exit should the White Hart Lane outfit fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

“If Arsenal don’t get in the top four is Robin van Persie going to leave? If Chelsea don’t get in the top four is John Terry going to walk away? It doesn’t work like that,” said Redknapp.

“We’ve no devine right to be in the top four, in fact, if we finish in the top four, we’ve punched above our weight to be perfectly honest.

“It doesn’t mean certain players are going to up and leave. If we don’t make the top four, it’s just one of those things.

“We’ve been playing great all year, and we’re sitting third in the league. We would have taken this position at the start of the year. No-one expected us to be so far clear as we were at that stage.

“The games have just been difficult and we haven’t managed to get the results in the last couple, but we’ve played very well.”
