José Enrique claims Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel has developed into the best centre-half in the Premier League.

Enrique, who moved to Anfield from Newcastle last summer, also rates the 27-year-old Slovakia defender ahead of Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany.

Skrtel has made 37 appearances for Kenny Dalglish’s men this season, netting four times – and Enrique insists he would not swap the defender for any other player in the Premier League.

“You cannot say that any striker has made a game difficult for him this season,” Enrique told Liverpool’s website. “Against many different strikers this season he has had an amazing game.

“He is doing really, really well for us. He has everything. He’s good in the air, he’s a strong player, he’s quick, he’s good with the ball.

“For me, I wouldn’t swap him for any centre-back in the Premier League. I know Kompany is a good centre-back too but I prefer Martin.”
