Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso held off a spirited fight from Sauber’s Sergio Perez to pull off a surprise win a rain-hit Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang.

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton again failed to turn pole into a race victory as he took the final podium position ahead of Red Bull’s Mark Webber, Lotus’ Kimi Räikkönen, and Williams’ Bruno Senna, who rounded out the top six.

A traditional Sepang storm red-flagged the race after just nine laps with drivers complaining that the final sector was “like a lake”.
