The Brazilian defender, who moved to Stamford Bridge from Benfica in January 2011, announced himself to the Blues faithful with a crucial strike in their 2-1 victory over Manchester United in west London last season.
The 24-year-old has netted three goals this term but admits he is keen to build on his total before the end of the season.
“I try and want more [goals],” he told Chelsea’s website. “All the players in the world, whether defenders or strikers, like to score but my mentality on the pitch is first of all defending and then if it’s possible I can help the guys in attack.
“I scored against Man United two times, I scored against Man City, I scored two similar goals against Bayer Leverkusen and Bolton so for me all the goals are important.”
Reflecting on his first 12 months in London, Luiz added: “I am happy because it is fantastic to play for Chelsea and 50 games in one year is so good.
“This league is so difficult, injuries are always possible but I am happy to play so many games.
“To start the season injured is hard, the other guys have more fitness and preparation so it was difficult but now we are the same and I am happy with my body.”
