Dalglish: Liverpool’s performances haven’t left me too disappointed

Kenny Dalglish insists he has not been disappointed by Liverpool's league performances this season - just their results

Kenny Dalglish claims Liverpool’s performances in the Premier League this season have been generally good – and insists it is just the results that have left the Reds manager disappointed.

Liverpool’s hopes of securing a top-four finish dwindled away after Dalglish’s side managed just one win in 11 league games, including shock defeats by West Bromich Albion and Wigan Athletic at Anfield.

But the 61-year-old manager insists the Merseysiders are focused on claiming maximum points from their remaining four league fixtures despite being out of the race for Champions League football next season.

“We’ll concentrate on every game we’ve got before then and try our best to get what we can from them,” Dalglish told Liverpool’s website.

“Nobody’s happy with the league results but we’ve not been too disappointed with the performances.”

Liverpool make the trip to Carrow Road to face Norwich City on Saturday, and Dalglish admits the Canaries frustrated the Reds at Anfield earlier in the season, when Grant Holt cancelled out Craig Bellamy’s first-half strike to earn a 1-1 draw.

“It was a mirror image of most of the games we’ve played [at Anfield],” said Dalglish. “We had many opportunities and either the goalkeeper made a magnificent save or we hit the bar and the post. We had plenty of chances.”

But Dalglish has nothing but praise for Canaries boss Paul Lambert, who has led Norwich to safety in their first season back in the top flight.

“They play the way Paul Lambert has been brought up, through his career in Scotland and obviously in Germany,” added the Reds boss.

“He’s got his principles and beliefs from the places he’s been, and it’s a wee bit ironic that he got the job on the back of beating them 7-1 at Carrow Road.

“He’s done a fantastic job. They’ve done fantastic in the Premier League, and they got back-to-back promotions to get there.

“Paul spent very wisely in the summer and got a lot of decent players in.”
