Andy Robinson eyeing three wins on Scotland’s summer tour

Andy Robinson wants Scotland to make amends for their poor Six Nations campaign by winning all their summer tour games

Andy Robinson has admitted Scotland’s upcoming Southern Hemisphere tour is the perfect opportunity to put their disappointing Six Nations campaign to bed – and he is targeting a trio of wins.

Scotland are without a win in eight Tests and with an under-strength Australia first up on 5 June, Robinson is eyeing the perfect start.

Also on the former England coach’s radar are Samoa and Fiji later in the month and with a new-look squad to choose from the 48-year-old is brimming with confidence.

Edinburgh trio Matt Scott, Tom Brown and Tim Visser will all be stepping up for their first senior tour and Robinson will be looking to draw on their run to the Heineken Cup semi-final as inspiration.

“We are involved in international rugby to go out and win and you never hide away from that fact,” he said.

“Edinburgh’s Heineken Cup run is good and helps build the confidence of players. You also look at players who haven’t toured before, and have just got their starting spot in the Scotland team and are now looking forward to touring for Scotland.

“That’s what we’re focusing on. But you also tell each player to go out and enjoy each experience they get because you might get injured or just not get another chance, so you live for the day.

“I’m looking forward to the tour. What’s happened has happened. We’re hugely disappointed but we’ve got to learn the lessons and make sure that, with the new coaching team, that we deliver performances in the three games.

“These are three very tough internationals, away from home. Australia will put out a very good side. They will be mainly based around Queensland players but you will see the potential of those guys, with some others that play on the Friday night and come in late if they’re fit, so it will be a very strong Australia team.

“Fiji and Samoa have all their players back to play in their home country against Scotland and they haven’t played in their home countries for many years, so it’s going to be three big Tests for us.”
