Brendan Rodgers is expected to be confirmed as Liverpool’s next manager within the next 48 hours, with the Reds reported to be in discussions with Swansea City over a compensation deal.

Here, we take a look at some of the reaction on Twitter to the prospect of Rodgers taking the reigns at Anfield.

Now Football ‏(@Now__Football) is the first of many users to get excited about the style of football Rodgers could implement at Anfield: “Brendan Rodgers will get Liverpool playing some good football, no doubt.”

And HawkseyLFC (‏@hawkseylfc1977) hopes Rodgers can implement a style that was so successful for Liverpool in the 1970s and 1980s: “If Brendan Rodgers gets the Liverpool job I look forward to seeing the type of football Barcelona copied off the great Liverpool sides again!”

Mark Ashton ‏(@markashton1982) has certainly been impressed by Rodgers’ Swansea City side: “If there is one manager playing the type of football that I like to watch, it’s Brendan Rodgers. I say give him the chance to make it work!!”

Paul Johnson (‏@ptjohno) is concerned Rodgers won’t be able to convince big names to come to Anfield: “Brendan Rodgers it seems like it is then. I for one am pleased and excited about this, although he won’t attract big names to Liverpool. Opinions???”

Meanwhile, Uwais (‏@Rover1875) doesn’t expect Rodgers to be able to revolutionise Liverpool’s style of play immediately: “Brendan Rodgers’ biggest task will be turning his passing football into winning football. Otherwise, run the risk of being another Wenger.”

James Murphy (‏@Murphes) keeps it short and sweet: “I would prefer Brendan Rodgers to Roberto Martinez #lfc”

Steven Sandhu (‏@sandhu4lfc) hopes Rodgers can help Liverpool play more like Barcelona: “Former pupil of Jose Mourinho and went to Barcelona to study their philosophy of tiki-taka. Welcome to #LFC Brendan Rodgers. YNWA”

And Denzel (@EmilDenzelWee) is hoping Gylfi Sigurdsson will follow Rodgers to Anfield: “If Brendan Rodgers get appointed, I wouldn’t mind Gylfi Sigurdsson coming over too!”

Enda Higgins (‏@He_Who_Dares_) takes a look at how Liverpool have evolved over the past two seasons: “What would Liverpool fans have said two years ago if you told them Andy Carroll would be striker, Jordan Henderson in midfield, Stewart Downing on the wing and Brendan Rodgers as manager.”

While Cliff Boona (‏@cliff_boona) is unhappy with the Liverpool owners for targeting the Swansea boss: “Swansea’s Brendan Rodgers to manage Liverpool!?! No thank you, we shall have King Kenny back. These Americans haven’t learned anything.”

Alan Shepherd ‏(@shepherdsig) asks are Liverpool digressing: “Not sure Brendan Rodgers is the man for the job – going backwards????”

But Mogaji Olakunle ‏(@mogajimusty) calls for patience: “@bbcsport what was Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola’s achievement before their appointment at Porto and Barcelona? Give Brendan Rodgers a chance!”

And Michael Eames (‏@kitman_swans) is a calm and composed Swansea fan: “Love how everyone is turning on Brendan Rodgers! If you were offered a promotion in your job would you take it!? People have short memories!”

But Wayne Harris ‏(@flasharris) doesn’t feel the same: “Not happy to hear Brendan Rodgers is leaving the Swans for Liverpool. They sacked their legend after half a season. Silly move Brendan.”

And George Savvas (‏@GeoSavL4) is unhappy Kenny Dalglish was sacked to make way for Rodgers: “King Kenny gets the boot so that Brendan Rodgers can come in! Are you kidding me?”

Toby CoSbykiD Osimen (‏@cosbykidd_) believes there are better options to Rodgers: “I’d rather Frank Rijkaard or Andre Villas-Boas, they’d be my top choices, but I will be ok with Brendan Rodgers if he’s appointed manager.”

And to finish, some more light-hearted Tweets

John Galloway ‏(@Johnglfc): “Looks like it’s Brendan Rodgers but I’ll only believe it when I hear it officially from Dave Whelan.”

Steve Brookstein (‏@stevebrookstein): “Brendan Rodgers doesn’t sound like a Liverpool manager. Mmmm not sure. Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool manager. No, I can’t see that lasting.”

Matthew Britton (‏@MatthewTBritton): “I thought Brendan Rodgers was going to be the next Barcelona manager?”

Ben Clerkin ‏(@SBennyC): “Brendan Rodgers to Liverpool – Steve Kean must be playing hardball!! #rovers”
