Petr Cech believes Bayern Munich are the favourites to lift the Champions League trophy on Saturday – because Chelsea’s opponents are playing at home.

Roberto Di Matteo’s Blues take on the Bundesliga outfit in Saturday’s showpiece at the Allianz Arena looking to secure the London club’s first Champions League triumph.

But Chelsea goalkeeper Cech feels his side’s task will be made harder as he expects the venue to give Bayern the upper hand – and admits it will be strange to face their opponents at their home ground.

“Of course they are [favourites],” Cech told reporters. “They are playing at home: they use their own dressing room and they play in their own stadium. They are favourites.

“It’s a bit funny to play a team in their home stadium in the Champions League final but that’s the way it is. If you want to win the Champions League you have to win every game to get the cup.”

Chelsea will be without the suspended John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic, Ramires and Raul Meireles for Saturday’s showdown – and Cech is determined to bring back the trophy for his absent team-mates.

“They are missing some players and we are missing some players,” he continued. “I hope we’re going to win it for them. I think every player who misses the Champions League final is bitterly disappointed not to play, so we will try and win it for them.

“[Winning the Champions League] would be unbelievable because we’ve been trying to win the cup ever since I arrived at the club.

“We’ve been very close so many times and we’ve never won it. It would be the first Champions League trophy for Chelsea football club – it would make history and it means a lot for everybody.”
