Gary Cahill admits it is “surreal” to have already won two trophies since joining Chelsea from Bolton Wanderers in January.

The England centre-half, who swapped the Reebok Stadium for Stamford Bridge half-way through the season, has helped Chelsea seal a FA Cup and Champions League double under interim boss Roberto Di Matteo.

Cahill, 26, concedes that he could not have imagined to have two winners’ medals to his name such a short time when he signed a five-and-a-half year deal with the Blues earlier in the season.

“It is a dream come true,” Cahill, who returned from a hamstring strain to play in the Champions League final in Munich, told Chelsea’s website.

“When I picked up the injury against Barcelona I feared I wouldn’t make [the final] but I am thankful to the staff that got David and I back. It’s absolutely amazing.

“We were disappointed to miss the FA Cup but the lads went out and did a job there, the team stuck together throughout everything this season, which hasn’t always been great, and we now have two trophies including the Champions League.

“It is still sinking in. it is so surreal. I came here to win trophies and signed for five-and-a-half years. I didn’t think I would be winning two inside six months. It’s amazing.

“If you had told me at the start of the season I would win the Champions League I would have thought you were joking. I’m lost for words.”
