Vicente del Bosque admitted his delight at seeing Fernando Torres end his Spain goal drought after the striker scored against South Korea on Wednesday.

The £50m Chelsea forward, who had not found the net for his country since scoring against USA on 4 June 2011, netted the opener in a 4-1 win for the defending European champions.

“He is one of those players that offers speed, movement and combination play with his team-mates,” said Del Bosque after the game.

“He seemed delighted with the goal and this is good for everyone.”

Xabi Alonso, Santi Cazorla and Alvaro Negredo completed the scoring for Del Bosque’s men in Bern, Switzerland.

The Spain coach also moved to allay fears that midfielder Cesc Fàbregas could be forced out of the European championship due to a thigh injury.

“We hope Fàbregas will be on good form and he’s forecast to be at the finals.” said Del Bosque.

Fàbregas himself had previously taken to Twitter to ease concerns over his fitness ahead of the tournament in Poland and Ukraine.

“Thank u all for caring abt my injury,” Fàbregas wrote on Twitter. “Im fine and with no pain. Soon will be 100% ready to start preparing the euros with the national team.”
