Enrique: Liverpool’s Suárez is one of the world’s best strikers
Jose Enrique believes Luis Suárez is among the world's best strikers and is backing the Uruguayan be prolific next season
Jose Enrique rates Liverpool’s “amazing” striker Luis Suárez as one of the best strikers in the world and believes the Uruguayan can become a prolific goal scorer for the Reds next season.
The 25-year-old has scored 21 goals in 49 appearances since moving to Anfield for Ajax in a £22.75m deal in January 2011 despite an eight-game ban earlier in the campaign for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.
But Enrique is backing Suárez to improve his goal record for Liverpool next term, insisting the Reds were unlucky this season after hitting the woodwork on 29 occasions.
“You only have to see Luis’s finishing in the Norwich games to see how good he can be,” Enrique told Liverpool’s website.
“I said to him after the game ‘Luis you deserve more goals this season’. He said ‘Maybe that will change next season’.
“He’s right at the top in the world. As Stevie says – he’s amazing. He makes a lot of chances himself.
“He makes a lot of chances himself. From nothing, he can do something. He is really, really important to us.”
“To hit the crossbar and the post so many times and miss a few penalties as well, it shows that we are creating lots of chances,” he said. “It is the role of everybody to score goals, though, not just the forwards.
“It looks like an excuse because everyone says the same but it would be more worrying if we weren’t shooting or creating the opportunity to shoot.
“Against many, many teams we might have scored earlier and the game changes and we win the points.”
