Liverpool’s Jonjo Shelvey eager to impress ahead of FA Cup final
Liverpool's Jonjo Shelvey hopes to impress against Fulham to force his way into Kenny Dalglish's plans for the FA Cup final
Jonjo Shelvey has vowed to impress Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish if the midfielder is handed his second successive Premier League start against Fulham at Anfield on Tuesday night.
The 20-year-old, who spent two months on loan at Blackpool earlier in the season, was part of Liverpool’s side that secured a resounding 3-0 victory over Norwich City at the weekend.
Shelvey, who was named the Football League Young Player of the Month for November after an impressive spell at Broomfield Road, is optimistic he can force his way into contention for the Reds’ FA Cup final showdown against Chelsea on Saturday.
“I enjoyed it and there’s nothing better than when you’ve come off the pitch having played the full 90 minutes and the team has won,” Shelvey told Liverpool’s website.
“If I’m selected I will give it my all and try my best for the team. You have to try and force your way into the manager’s plans, not just during a match but every day in training.
“There’s not a day you can come in to this club and rest on your laurels. You have to give it everything you have got every day.”
He added: “The FA Cup final can wait until Saturday and this is our important game because it is the next one. You can’t just forget about the league and the manager has put that into our heads all week.
“For me as a young boy who might not get a chance in the cup final this is my chance, if selected, to play for Liverpool in the league.”
“It’s nice to set goals up and get goals and it’s just nice to be involved in the team.”
