Newcastle boss Alan Pardew warns Man City of Papiss Cisse threat
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew warns Manchester City that an in-form Papiss Cisse could dent their title hopes
Alan Pardew has warned Manchester City that Papiss Cisse poses a real threat of denting the Citizens’ title hopes when Newcastle United take on the league leaders on Sunday.
The 26-year-old Senegal international has netted a staggering 13 goals since moving to Newcastle from Freiburg in January and scored a spectacular brace against Chelsea to fire the Magpies to victory in midweek.
And Pardew, whose side can inch closer to a top-four finish with victory over Roberto Mancini’s men at the Sports Direct Arena, admits Newcastle’s current position in the league is largely down to Cisse’s instant impact.
“We’re just pleased we got him in January rather than at the end of the season because we certainly wouldn’t be where we are now without him,” said Pardew.
“It was great to secure his services and he’s been a massive asset to us. The team has evolved a little bit around him.
“We play some decent football and it gives him the opportunity to finish. He’s at the spearhead of most of our attacks – and he doesn’t miss often.”
Pardew added: “He’s going to be a real threat to Manchester City and could decide the title.”
