Paul Lambert has offered his resignation at Norwich City, with Aston Villa keen to hire the former Scotland international to succeed Alex McLeish at the Birmingham club.

Here, we take a look at some of the reaction on Twitter to the 39-year-old’s decision.

Mike Spence (‏@mikespence8) clearly feels Lambert will regret this decision: “Paul Lambert is about to make the biggest mistake of his life..#Norwich #Villa”

Miranda Nagalingam ‏(@Miranda_N) reckons Lambert is moving in the wrong direction: “In complete shock about Paul Lambert’s decision to hand in his resignation @NorwichCityFC, why jump ship to one that nearly sunk last season?”

Meanwhile, Darren Reeve (‏@Dipdap45) is keen to give Lambert a history lesson: “Hope Paul Lambert remembers what happened to Mike Walker [in 1994] when he left #NCFC ……”

A pessimistic Geo King (@doubleluckstur) is worried for Norwich’s future: “Still can’t believe Paul Lambert is going to resign from Norwich. We’re going down next season no question.”

Colby Haylett ‏(@ColbyHaylett) questions the reaction of the Norwich hierarchy, and wants Chris Hughton to replace Lambert: “Don’t understand why Norwich have rejected the resignation of Paul Lambert, why would you want a unhappy manger? Let him go #Houghton4Norwich”

Adam Pearce ‏(@apearce23) appreciates Lambert’s impact: “To take a club from the shackles of League One to 12th in the Premier League in three years is monumental. Good luck Paul Lambert. Thankyou #ncfc”

While Aston Villa fan Kevin Prior (‏@cloakofficial) says: “Getting very excited about Paul Lambert – feel he is going to be what the Villa have missed since Martin O’Neill left.”

Manchester United fan Ryan Checkley ‏(@CheckersMUFC) wishes Lambert all the best: “Good Luck to Paul Lambert where ever he goes, great manager and deserves all the respect he can get #GoodManager #GoodLuck”

John Carter ‏(@JohnCImpact) rates Lambert highly: “Few managers have achieved so much in three years as Paul Lambert at #ncfc. Difficult act to follow but also a great opportunity.”

Another United fan Sid ‏(@BTOT_MUFC) reckons Liverpool should have approached Lambert rather than Brendan Rodgers: “Liverpool should have gone for Paul Lambert rather than Brendan Rodgers, better suited for their type of game. Villa’s gain anyway!”

And Ben Walker (‏@BJDWalker) agrees: “Is it just me who thinks Aston Villa are getting a much better deal than Liverpool with Paul Lambert? Rodgers is more style than substance.”

Graeme Waggott ‏(@GrayWag), however, disagrees: “Paul Lambert isn’t even in the same class as Brendan Rodgers, not even close! Surley Villa could attract a better manager? Not a fan of Lambert at all, not sure what he’s actually done to warrant attention, even Phil Brown managed to keep Hull in Premiership!”

Danny Kagoro ‏(@anesukagoro) believes Lambert has shown disloyalty but should be allowed to leave: “Paul Lambert’s conduct is not the best but at the same time the club should have let him speak to villa.”

And a funny Tweet doing the rounds: “BREAKING: Police arrest a drunk middle-aged woman menacingly screaming “Where are you? Let’s be aving you” outside Paul Lambert’s house.”
