Philipp Lahm believes Chelsea’s old guard are facing their final chance to win the Champions League crown, with the Blues set to take on Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.

The Bayern captain is well aware of the wealth of experience the Blues have in Europe’s premier club competition, with Petr Cech, Didier Drogba, and Frank Lampard all set to feature in their second European cup final.

But Lahm, who was on the losing side when the Bundesliga outfit were beaten by Internazionale in the 2010 final, believes his side can match their opponents’ experience and claims that Chelsea’s veterans are facing their last shot at European glory.

“It’s an advantage to have played in the final two years ago,” Lahm said.

“The players know what to expect so we’ve made a few steps forward. Two years ago, everything was new.

“We have more experience now, but Chelsea played in the final [in 2008]. For some of their players, it will be the last chance to win this title.”

The 28-year-old began his career at Bayern and the Germany international admits it would a “dream” to win the Champions League in front of a home crowd.

“It was our dream to make it to the final and here we are,” Lahm added.

“We haven’t quite finished yet, we want to win this cup and we have a tough job ahead of us but it’s great to be here on home turf.

“I was born in Munich, I grew up in Munich and I joined Bayern at the age of 11, so this is definitely my home. When you look round the city everybody is happy; there’s great anticipation.”
