Stan Collymore described Didier Drogba as one of the Premier League’s greatest strikers after the Ivory Coast star confirmed his Chelsea exit on Tuesday afternoon.

Here, we take a look at some more reaction from Twitter following Drogba’s announcement that he will leave the club next month.

Ex-Liverpool forward Stan Collymore: “Good luck to Didier Drogba wherever he goes next. One of the best strikers to grace the Premier League. Fernando Llorente, Edinson Cavani, Radamel Falcao all should be on a Drogba replacement list. Not sure Fernando Torres automatically promises goals/performances anymore.”

West Bromich Albion midfielder Steven Reid: “Good news for all defenders #drogba leaving!!!”

Former England striker Gary Lineker: “Farewell Didier Drogba. You have enthralled us, occasionally enraged us, but always entertained us. A striking superstar.”

Chelsea squad member George Saville: “God bless Didier Drogba. He was an inspiration and a great professional and great person – sad to see him leave! #CFC”

Former England cricket captain and Chelsea supporter Alec Stewart: “@chelseafc Didier Drogba will rightly be remembered as one of the greatest to have worn the blue shirt. #atruechampionofchelseafc”

Ex-Manchester City striker Rodney Marsh: “Bit ironic how people who called Drogba the “diving, injury feigning, cheat” are now saying he’s one of the Premier League’s greatest foreign players.”

A satirical take on Drogba’s decision

A fake account posing as Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli ‏(@MarioBaloteLAD): “So Didier Drogba is leaving Chelsea? Presumably by stretcher… or possibly springboard.”

A spoof Twitter page for Southampton manager Nigel Adkins ‏(@Nigel_Adkins): “#saintsfc won’t be signing Drogba. He’s not the right man to partner Owen. #cantbeatthemjointhem”

Chelsea fans have their say

Khaled Allibhai (‏@Thekenyanone) posts a heartfelt message: “Didier Drogba, what a legend, a great man on and off the pitch. You will always be in the hearts of Chelsea fans everywhere. #thanksDrogba”

Tony (‏@repman244) sums up the Ivory Coast striker’s impact: “Thank you Didier Drogba! Arrived as a player left as a legend!”

Sam Warren ‏(@SammWarrenn) argues Drogba’s case to be crowned the greatest foreign striker in the Premier League era: “Thierry Henry: 5 finals 0 goals. Didier Drogba: 9 finals 9 goals. Big game player. #thankyoudrogba #Chelsealegend #thanksdrogba”
