Yaya Toure has revealed his decision to move to Manchester City was born from his desire to “make history” at Eastlands.

The 28-year-old is on the verge of winning the Premier League title with City after his brace against Newcastle United helped Roberto Mancini’s side remain in first place on goal difference.

Toure, who won two La Liga titles and a Champions League crown with Barcelona before moving to City in 2009, is hoping to beat Queens Park Rangers on Sunday to guarantee the Citizens their first top flight title in 44 years.

“I came to City to make history, and that is my first objective – to help make a successful football club,” he told City’s website.

“Last year, we won the FA Cup and we have to continue like that and next try to win our final match.

“We know it’s going to be tough, but I believe in this team, I believe in the players we have and we know we will have the same fantastic backing we’ve had all season from our fans

“The job is not done yet. We have to keep going because QPR need the points, but it would be amazing if we win. It is for occasions like this I came to City – to make history – and I hope I will make history at the weekend.”

“He always believes in us and always tells us: ‘Guys you have to believe in yourselves. The most important thing is you have to keep winning games and United can drop some points’ – and he was right.

“Forty-four years is unbelievably long time to wait for another title – it is too many years and for the fans to wait. Now we have one game left and we have to deliver.”
