Carlo Cudicini believes Andre Villas-Boas would be a good fit for Tottenham Hotspur as the Portuguese coach continues to be linked with the White Hart Lane post.

Spurs sacked Harry Redknapp earlier this month after almost four years in charge at the club, and Villas-Boas has emerged as one of the front-runners to be handed the job by chairman Daniel Levy.

However, Villas-Boas is understood to be disappointed that Spurs have reportedly held initial talks with his representatives while apparently still courting other managers, including Everton’s David Moyes and Rafael Benitez.

But goalkeeper Cudicini feels the young coach would be a good appointment for Spurs and claims Villas-Boas could “learn a lot” at White Hart Lane.

“I think it would be good for him,” Cudicini told Sky Sport Italia. “I also think it would be a good opportunity for him to grow as a coach. Tottenham are a great team and he could learn a lot here.

“Benitez did very well in England as coach of Liverpool and he knows English football very well.

“However, it’s obvious that many names have been brought up because Tottenham are one of the most important Premier League clubs.”

Former England boss Fabio Capello is another name to be linked with the vacant Tottenham post – and Cudicini said he would welcome the appointment of his fellow countryman.

“Capello to Tottenham would make me very happy,” he added. “I played under him at AC Milan when I was young and he won so much with the senior team. He would bring experience and knowledge into the side.”
