Arsenal signal their intentions: Twitter reacts to Giroud reports
Olivier Giroud is reportedly on the verge of sealing a move to Arsenal, prompting a flurry of Tweets from excited fans
Montpellier president Louis Nicollin has confirmed that France striker Olivier Giroud is set to quit the Ligue 1 champions to join Arsenal.
The 25-year-old scored 21 goals in 36 appearances as Montpellier won the Ligue 1 title last season – and Arsenal supporters have welcomed the striker’s seemingly imminent arrival on Twitter.
Here is a collection of some Twitter musings that caught our eye.
Arsenal blogger Matt Carr (@MattCarr85) is experiencing one of the drawbacks of the transfer window: “Waiting on Arsenal.com to announce Giroud. I’ve refreshed that page 50 million times already #HurryUp”
Adam H (@AdamH_Football) believes the deal will be confirmed by the club imminently: “I reckon Giroud will be announced later tonight or tomorrow. Two good signings already for Arsenal, we mean business. #afc #arsenal”
Meanwhile, Karu Pohjola (@KaruPohjola) is delighted to see Arsene Wenger splash the cash this summer: “We’ve already got Lukas Podolski. Yann M’vila and Giroud arriving “soon”. Man this is the summer I’ve been waiting for and it isn’t even July yet.”
And Alex (@AlexFortyNine) believes a front three of Robin van Persie, Giroud and Lukas Podolski would be an interesting mix: “That said if we keep RvP it will be great to have him, Podolski and Giroud, who are three very different players/strikers.”
Gbenga Adewuyi (@gbenga_adewuyi) wants Arsenal’s next big deal to be securing Van Persie’s services on a new contract: “First Podolski, now Giroud – #Arsenal are making their intentions for next season known. #RVP next to re-sign.”
Mark (@MarkGOONERWilko) wants to know more about the French international: “So, would anyone be so kind as to tell me if they know when Giroud will be announced? Is the guy a going to be a bench warmer?”
And so does Ross Goddard (@Rosswlg): “Anyone seen anything of Giroud at Lille? Is he worth the 12million!?”
Gunners fan Harshul Choudhary (@HarshulC) is hoping Giroud will be a success: “News of Giroud’s imminent arrival at Arsenal is pretty good. As an Arsenal fan, I hope he lives up to the expectations.#gooner”
Montpellier chairman Louis Nicollin has won over a few Arsenal fans, including Asa Joseph (@asajoseph): “I don’t know about Giroud, but this Nicollin guy sounds like a legend. Can we maybe give him Ivan Gazidis’ job?”
And JakeAFC (@JakeAFC_) wants to see some more new faces at The Emirates: “Podolski and Giroud done! Will all be in Arsenal shirts next season. Who do you want to see next?”
