Finally! Chelsea confirm signing of Eden Hazard from Lille
Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Eden Hazard from Lille in a deal reported to be worth in the region of £32m
Chelsea have finally confirmed the signing of Eden Hazard from Lille following months of speculation over the Belgium playmaker’s future.
The 21-year-old, who passed medical at Chelsea on Monday, has agreed personal terms with the Blues and will join up with his new team-mates in July for pre-season training.
“I’m delighted to finally arrive here, it’s a wonderful club and I can’t wait to get started,” said Hazard.
Hazard’s future has been the subject of much speculation in recent months after he confirmed he was likely to leave Ligue 1 club Lille in the summer.
The midfielder took to Twitter last week to announce that he would be joining the “Champions League winners” after attracting interest from both Manchester clubs.
A Chelsea statement read: “Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce we have agreed terms with Lille for the transfer of Eden Hazard.
“The 21-year-old Belgian international has agreed personal terms with the club and today passed a medical examination.”
Hazard, who faced England at Wembley in the Euro 2012 warm-up on Saturday, scored 21 goals in 48 games and made 18 assists for Lille last season, helping the French club achieve Champions League qualification.
Hazard added: “When they won the Champions League I told myself, ‘Why not Chelsea?’
“There was a struggle between Chelsea and United but, for me, Chelsea has the best project. The team is young and I have a better chance to play there.”
The transfer fee has not been disclosed but reports suggest it is in the region of £32m and is a deal that has been personally pushed through by Blues owner Roman Abramovich.
The west Londoners are also in the hunt for Porto striker Hulk, with reports claiming a £38m fee has already been agreed for the transfer of the Brazilian forward.
