Thibaut Courtois is to spend another season at Atletico Madrid on loan from Chelsea following a successful spell in La Liga last season.

Courtois was immediately loaned out to the Spanish club after moving to Stamford Bridge from Genk last summer and enjoyed a fruitful campaign with Atletico, helping them to their second Europa League title in three years.

The 20-year-old is thrilled to have sealed another season in Spain and is determined to become Belgium’s first choice between the posts in the build-up to the 2014 World Cup.

“I am very happy to play another year at this great club and this great league,” said Courtois.

“I hope we have a good season, get into the Champions League and we get far in the Champions League.

“Belgium will play the qualifying matches for the 2014 World Cup and I want to be the first goalkeeper, although they are a great team and there is a lot of competition for the job.

“If I play well at Atletico it will help me achieve this. Most importantly if I’m good at Atletico my chances of being selected will be better.”
