Cristiano Ronaldo insists Portugal are ready to “fight” to win Euro 2012 after the Real Madrid forward’s winner against the Czech Republic booked his country’s place in the last four.

The 27-year-old had twice hit the woodwork before he timed his leap to perfection in the six-yard box to nod João Moutinho’s cross past Petr Cech in the 79th minute.

“We created many chances and hit the post, but it is brilliant for us to have passed into the semi-finals,” said Ronaldo.

“We know it is going to be difficult, but we are ready, we are confident. We are very mature, so we are ready for the fight.”

Meanwhile, Portugal manager Paulo Bento was eager to praise the performance of the whole squad, rather than just the eye-catching performance of his captain Ronaldo.

“All the players have tasks on the pitch, and Ronaldo played to our tactical system,” the Portugal coach said.

“He has the capacity to play in the penalty area, but also a little deeper.”

Portugal will face the winner of Saturday’s quarter-final between France and Spain, but Bento has no preference over his side’s opposition, insisting the task remains the same – to win and reach the final.

“We do not prefer [to play] anybody,” he added. “It has been a lot of work by us to reach the semi-finals and we will try to recover to reach the pitch in the best condition.

“We will show the response which is necessary. Our aim will be to win against France or Spain. There cannot be any other goal for us.”
