Euro 2012: England will be fine without me, insists Rooney
Wayne Rooney is convinced England will be able to cope in his absence in their first two group games in Poland and Ukraine
Wayne Rooney believes his England team-mates are more than capable of coping with his absence through suspension for the first two group games of Euro 2012.
The Three Lions will be without the 26-year-old Manchester United striker against France and Sweden as a result of the ban for his red card in the final qualifying game against Montenegro.
But Rooney, who was a second-half substitute in England’s 1-0 friendly victory over Belgium at Wembley on Saturday, is sure Roy Hodgson’s men can get results in their opening Group D fixtures ahead of their final game against Ukraine, where he is likely to make his return.
“I’ve seen enough to believe we will be fine without me for those games,” said Rooney, whose three-game ban was reduced to two on appeal.
“I think four or five points will get us through the group and we’re capable of beating France and Sweden.”
