Euro 2012: Man City’s Joe Hart cherishing England responsibility
Joe Hart admits he feels under pressure to deliver at his first international tournament as England's first-choice goalkeeper
Joe Hart admits he is thriving in his role as England’s No1 goalkeeper – but concedes that he feels under pressure to deliver at Euro 2012.
The Manchester City shot-stopper travelled with Fabio Capello’s squad to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa but did not make an appearance for the Three Lions.
Two years on and Hart has established himself as the national side’s undisputed first choice between the posts following two sparkling seasons at Eastlands, capped with the club’s first top-flight title since 1968 last term.
And the 25-year-old goalkeeper admits he will be approaching this summer’s tournament in Poland and Ukraine with completely difference mentality to two years ago.
“South Africa was amazing. I absolutely loved it,” he said. 2I just wish we had done better as a team. We had a really good squad out there and it was unfortunate we couldn’t do as well as we wanted to.
“For me, it’s a totally different mindset this time to two years ago. There’s an awful lot more expected of me this time with playing all the qualifying games and things like that.
“I like that responsibility and hopefully I’ll bring something positive to the team.”
