Samir Nasri has hit out at French newspaper L’Equipe following France’s 1-1 draw with England in their Euro 2012 Group D opener on Monday.

The Manchester City midfielder cancelled out Joleon Lescott’s opener in the 39th minute and celebrated by putting his index finger to his lips and shouting “ferme ta gueuele“, which roughly translates to ‘shut your face’.

His outburst appeared to be aimed in the direction of England’s supporters but the 24-year-old clarified his actions by saying they were meant solely for L’Equipe, who he feels has been unfairly critical of him in the build-up to Euro 2012.

“That [my outburst] was aimed at the French press and not at others who didn’t criticise me. L’Equipe has been very unfriendly towards me and have written a lot of bad things,” Nasri said.

“Ahead of a European Championship, the goal should be to help the national team prepare well for the tournament.”

France next face co-hosts Ukraine in their next Group D clash on Friday, before taking on Sweden.
