John Ruddy has signed a new four-year deal at Norwich City after the goalkeeper impressed in the Canaries’ return to the Premier League last season.

The 25-year-old kept three clean sheets in 37 top flight appearances as Norwich finished in 12th position, 11 points clear of the relegation zone.

Ruddy’s eye-catching performances earned the goalkeeper a call-up to Roy Hodgson’s squad for Euro 2012, but the Canaries shot-stopper was forced to withdraw from the 23-man travelling party after breaking his finger in England training.

“I’m delighted. I have never wanted to leave Norwich since I’ve been here,” Ruddy, whose new contract runs until 2016, told Norwich’s website.

“I’ve had a great two years so far and I can’t wait to be a part of it for the next four years.”

Ruddy joined Norwich from Everton in 2010 and kept 13 clean sheets in 46 appearances as the Canaries finished second in the Championship, ending their seven-year absence from the Premier League.

Chris Hughton, who has replaced Paul Lambert as manager at Carrow Road, is thrilled to tie the goalkeeper down to a long-term deal.

“I am delighted to have secured John’s future at the club for a further four years,” said Hughton.

“He has made some fantastic progress over the past couple of years here and he is an integral part of the club’s future.

“His great work over the past couple of years has seen him work his way into the England squad with his call-up this summer and hopefully he can continue his great progress now for years to come.”
