Gareth Bale has signed a new four-year contract at White Hart Lane to give managerless Tottenham Hotspur a boost as they continue their search for Harry Redknapp’s successor.

The 22-year-old has scored 21 goals in 113 Premier League appearances for Spurs after joining from Southampton in 2007.

Here, we take a look at some of the best reaction from Tottenham supporters and rival fans on Twitter.

Former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) is delighted with the news: “A slice of good news at last for Spurs fans. Gareth Bale has signed a contract until 2016.”

Meanwhile, Shez (‏@ShezVee) is hoping Bale can emulate the loyalty of Manchester United duo Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes: “Got serious respect for Gareth Bale, nowadays players know nothing about loyalty, people like Scholes and Giggs are very rare.”

And Adam Kennedy ‏(@sportreport67) reckons the Spurs manager’s job just became a lot more attractive: “To my surprise, Gareth Bale just signed a four-year extension with Tottenham. The manager’s job just got a whole lot easier.”

Mac Chapwell ‏(@MacChapwell) is delighted by Tottenham’s work in the transfer market, with Vedran Corluka joining Lokomotiv Moscow: “So Gareth Bale signs a new deal and we manage to flog Corluka for 7mil….not a bad day of business! #thfc”

Tottenham fan Riyaz Parker ‏(@Niceman_21_BW) heaps praise on Bale: “Gareth Bale…what a player…signed a new contract with Spurs because he wants to play Champions League football. That’s what you call #Loyalty”

And James (‏@j1mmychow) is seeing the bigger picture: “Somewhat shocked about Gareth Bale’s new contract. Do Spurs know something on the manager front?”

Will Ryles (‏@willryles) agrees: “Gareth Bale must know who the new Tottenham manager is, can’t see him signing up otherwise..”

However, Glenn Hollywell ‏(@goodguyglenn) is just happy to see Bale stay: “Gareth Bale signed a new contract! Legend! Like a new signing. Was convinced he was off to pastures new and wouldn’t have blamed him #woohoo!”

Meanwhile, Dapz ‏(@cuzondapz) has already looked to future signings this summer: “Now with Gareth Bale staying if we bring in Andre Villas-Boas, Jan Vertonghen and Gylfi Sigurdsson within the next week then Spurs can definitely be smiling..Harry who?”

But Omar (‏@i_am_cool_JONES) reckons it is a decision Bale will come to regret: “Gareth Bale should never of signed for so LONG! He’s going to want out of that contract soon!”

And Ansser ‏(@manutdfan_usa) is rather sceptical about the deal: “So Gareth Bale gets a nice wage boost and Tottenham ensure when they sell next season they will get a massive fee. Win-win.#THFC”

However, Sam Ette (‏@Sam_Ette) suggests there was just no interest in the Welsh winger: “Clearly no one wants to buy Gareth Bale if he’s signed a new contract #overrated”

Previously-worried Spurs fan Michael (‏@TheKnottyShow) is relieved to find out it was good news about Bale: “I was so worried when I saw Gareth Bale trending, thank god it was good news.”

Finnaly, VVil D (‏@d20crit) has a breakdown in communication with the missus: “Me: Bale signed for another 4 years! Wifey: There are more Batman movies? Me: What the f**k? Wifey: Christian Bale. Me: No, Gareth Bale.#COYS”
