Michael Laudrup insisted his philosophy will be a good fit Swansea City after the former Real Madrid star was unveiled as Brendan Rodgers’ successor on Thursday.

The 48-year-old, who has previously managed Brondby, Getafe, Spartak Moscow and Levante, revealed that he did not know much about Swansea and had to do research on the Welsh club – but it did not deter supporters from getting excited about his appointment online.

Here is some of the reaction from Twitter.

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel ‏(@Pschmeichel1) is impressed by Michael Laudrup’s first news conference: “Michael Laudrup did well in his first meeting with the press as Swansea manager, made a good impression but gave nothing away.”

Swansea supporter Danny Harrison ‏(@DannyboyH1988) agrees with the former Denmark international: “@Pschmeichel1 Laudrup seems quite assured, shame he basically admitted he’s going to miss out on Sigurdsson!”

And Dan Eddolls ‏(@Dan1Edds) is very excited about the Swans’ future: “This is a beginning of a fantastic era for us, in Michael Laudrup we believe, his press conference went really well #SCFC”

Ade Taylor (‏@ATaylor) is delighted the Welsh club have appointed a manager with such a huge reputation in football: “Michael Laudrup – the Swansea City manager. Makes me very proud of my team and city.”

Many Swansea fans were encouraged by Laudrup’s use of the word ‘philosophy’, including Abigail Davies ‏(@swanabi): “Impressed with Laudrup’s manner and the vision expressed throughout that conference. #PhilosophyIsKey”

Rhys Padarn (‏@lordpad) brings the word up again: “Impressed with Laudrup’s first press conference, he is making all the right noises and seems to have bought in to our philosophy. #Swans#scafc”

Meanwhile, StopGunnerTime ‏(@StopGunnerTime) knows very little about Laudrup but is hopeful after reading Andres Iniesta’s comments about the Danish legend: “Iniesta said he’s the best he’s ever seen. Well for me Iniesta is the best midfielder I’ve ever seen, so he must have been good. #Laudrup”

Similarly, Jordan Westhead ‏(@JordoWesthead) is unsure what to expect: “I know nothing about Michael Laudrup as a manager, so I will be looking forward to see his team during the season..”

Arsenal supporter Billy Kilby ‏(@BillyKilby) is not optimistic: “Laudrup will get Swansea relegated and it’s a shame after what they achieved last season under Brendan Rodgers.”

Liverpool fan James Marsh (‏@Marsh_JC) can see Swansea becoming embroiled in a relegation battle, too: “Excited to see Laudrup coaching in England. Hope #scfc do well but their fans have to accept it could be a relegation battle #2ndseason”

However, Sunderland supporter Adam Rossiter ‏(@adamJrossiter) is rather more optimistic: “Anyone else get the feeling that Michael Laudrup is going to be a massive success at Swansea? #scfc”
