Papiss Cisse has underlined his desire to stay at Newcastle United for “many years” after an impressive start to his spell at St James’ Park.

The Senegal striker, who joined the Magpies from Freiburg in January, was prolific in the second half of the season, netting 13 goals and helping Alan Pardew’s men cement a Europa League spot.

His sparkling form in front of goal inevitably led to speculation over his future, with a number of Europe’s top clubs rumoured to be interested in securing the 27-year-old’s services.

But Cisse now appears to have ended talk of a possible move away from the Sports Direct Arena after he vowed to stay at the club and help them achieve Champions League qualification.

“I am very happy in Newcastle and I want to stay there for many years,” Cisse told Sky Sports News.

“We were close to a Champions League position so next season hopefully we will qualify for that and everyone will taste the Champions League. I am looking forward to next season.”
