Jamie Mackie has admitted he is still “gutted” Queens Park Rangers were unable to hang on to deny Manchester City a victory on the final day of the Premier League season.

Roberto Mancini’s side had taken a first-half lead through Pablo Zabaleta before Djibril Cisse and Mackie scored after the break to put Mark Hughes’ side ahead with 25 minutes remaining.

But QPR were unable to hold on as Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero scored late goals to dramatically hand City their first top-flight crown since 1968.

“I’m still a little bit gutted and I think a few of the boys are that we actually didn’t get anything [from the final game],” Mackie told Sky Sports News.

“We probably should have seen the game out, however the mean thing with us is that we stayed up and kick on this year.

“Yes, it was an exciting game, but depending on who you support some people were happy and some people weren’t.

“However, we have to be selfish and luckily enough at the end of it we stayed up.”

Hughes has already brought in Ryan Nelsen and Andy Johnson on free transfers, and QPR defender Clint Hill has agreed a new one-year contract extension at Loftus Road.

And Mackie, who signed a new deal himself this summer which sees the striker stay at QPR until 2015, is optimistic about the Hoops’ future.

“With the backing that the chairman and owners are willing to put in, and have put in already, I feel that the club is going to go on from strength to strength from here,” he added.

“It’s exciting times; we’ve already made a few signings which is quite early, and good for the lads who are coming in.”
