Red Bull’s Mark Webber: My future depends on results
Red Bull's Mark Webber says his future will be decided by his results this season, as he continues to be linked with Ferrari
Mark Webber has claimed that his Red Bull future depends on the results he gets this season.
Webber is one of seven drivers to have won a race this year after clinching victory at a thrilling Monaco Grand Prix in May.
The Australian’s refusal to sign anything more than one-year contract extensions has led to inevitable speculation over his future, with Ferrari touted as a possible destination for the 35-year-old.
But Webber, who is currently fourth in the drivers’ standings, nine points behind championship leader Lewis Hamilton, claims his contract situation is purely dependant on how he performs in the current season.
“The situation depends on the results I get this year,” Webber told Autosprint. “They’ve been very inconsistent this year. Up to the Monaco Grand Prix I hadn’t even been on the podium, then I won. But qualifying has so far gone very well for me.
“As far as I’m concerned, I’m driving very well, and I see no difference with last year’s situation.
“Obviously there’s plenty of people who would like to come to Red Bull, but the question we have to ask ourselves is: does the team really want to change?
“For sure that’s a question for Christian [Horner] and Adrian [Newey]. And for Dietrich [Mateschitz] and Helmut [Marko]. Let’s see what happens. I can only control what I do and so far I think I have done that very well.”
