Collymore, Huckerby and more: Twitter reacts to Lambert arrival
Aston Villa confirm Paul Lambert has been appointed as their new manager, leading to an inevitable reaction on Twitter
Stan Collymore hailed Aston Villa’s appointment of Paul Lambert after the Birmingham outfit confirm the former Norwich City boss as Alex McLeish’s successor on Saturday.
Here, we take a look at some Twitter reaction to Lambert’s decision to quit Norwich and join Villa.
Former Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore (@StanCollymore) is delighted with the appointment: “Yes!! Great news!! Paul Lambert – a very warm welcome to Aston Villa Fooball Club!! Well done Mr Lerner & Paul Faulkner. A very positive appointment and a process well observed. Great news! Very, very happy Villa fan.”
But former Norwich forward Darren Huckerby (@hucks6dh6) is bitterly disappointed: “@StanCollymore Got yourself a top class manager and he will get the best out of Villa’s underperforming players, massive loss for #ncfc”
Former Norwich striker Iwan Roberts (@iwanwroberts) retweets a supporter’s message: “@LisaMaffia09: @iwanwroberts After the week’s events it makes you realise how loyal you really were to Norwich! #legend” Thank you”
Celebrity Norwich fan Jake Humphrey (@mrjakehumphrey) is appreciative of Lambert’s input: “Paul Lambert took us from League One strugglers to Premier League participants in just three seasons. City fans should be nothing but thankful.”
Matt Burton (@5_MattyB) wants Grant Holt to follow Lambert: “Yes! Paul Lambert appointed as Villa Manager. Well done Randy Lerner – now tell him to bring Holt with him and give him some money!#AVFC”
And Kevin White (@WH1TEYBHOY) expects Lambert to be a success: “Good luck to Paul Lambert, I’m sure he’ll do a sterling job. Working with next to nothing seems to be his forte.”
Dan Hayward (@TheDanHayward) believes Lerner has finally made a sensible appointment: “Paul Lambert welcome to Aston Villa! It’s great to have a decent manager in charge of the Villains. About time!”
While Paul Taylor (@nottmtails) is not surprised Lambert has left: “Those Norwich fans moaning about a lack of loyalty from Paul Lambert should remember how he arrived at Carrow Road.”
And Sadie Grimwood (@dillyanne) agrees after the manner of Lambert’s appointment from Colchester United to Norwich in 2009: “When you get with someone and they are cheating on someone else you can’t be that surprised when they then cheat on you #NCFC #PaulLambert”
Meanwhile, Mank56 (@mank56) believes going to Villa is backward step: “Is Paul Lambert mad or what? Joker. Talk about taking a backward step.”
Unsurprisingly, Villa fan Sharon Bennett (@avfcgal) disagrees: “Paul Lambert has taken a giant step forward by coming to the Villa. All Villa fans are behind our new manager – good luck Lambert”
And LAMPER (@Alex_Lamper) is stunned by recent goings on in the football world: “Both Brendan Rodgers and Paul Lambert have shown that there’s no such thing as loyalty in football anymore.”
