Scott Parker admits he enjoyed a “fantastic” first season at boyhood club Tottenham Hotspur last term.

Parker made 32 appearances for Spurs last season after joining from relegated West Ham United in a £7m deal on the final day of the summer transfer window.

And the 31-year-old’s impressive form for Harry Redknapp’s side resulted in Stuart Pearce naming the former Chelsea star as his England captain for the 3-2 defeat by the Netherlands in a friendly at Wembley back in February.

“It’s gone very well for me personally,” Parker, a boyhood Spurs fans, told the club’s website.

“I think when Harry came in and was looking at me, I looked at the team and wondered if I could add something different to it. I think I’ve complemented the team well and at the same time, the players have complemented me. I feel like I’ve fitted in really well and I’m really pleased with how it’s gone.

“When you come to a new club, the one thing you want to do is settle in really well, settle in quickly and hit the ground running. I felt like I did that.

“We got off to a great start and I didn’t lose until my 11th game for the Club, away to Stoke. We went on a great run and that coincided with me coming into the team, so I took great confidence from that.

“It’s been brilliant. I’ve had a fantastic season, I’ve been around some great people and some great players. This is a very good club and as everyone knows, as a kid, I supported Spurs, so it’s been fantastic for me.”
