Anne Keothavong admitted the chance to play at Wimbledon for a second time this year at the London 2012 Olympics is the perfect fillip after she lost to French Open finalist Sara Errani in the second round.

The British No1 was beaten 6-1 6-1 by the 10th seed after losing the first set in just 26 minutes.

But Keothavong, 28, will return to the All England Club next month after she was handed a wildcard to compete in the women’s singles at the Olympics along with Elena Baltacha.

“That’s the one thing that puts a smile on my face,” she said when asked about her return to SW19 for the Games. “Every time I think of the Olympics, I’m just over the moon about the selection.

“It’s great that all four of us British girls have a chance to be part of the team. I have never been part of an Olympic team before. It’s something new. It’s something special. And the fact that it’s in London.”

Keothavong admitted nerves got the better of her in the opening few games as her Italian opponent raced into the lead.

“It’s Wimbledon. Of course [I was nervous]. I think everyone is nervous before they go out there,” she added.

“But I just forced it a bit too much. She didn’t hit me off the court or anything like that. She was putting the ball in deep and she played some great drop-shots.

“I managed to kind of just hit myself off the court, I guess.”
