Alberto Aquilani staying at Liverpool, insists midfielder’s agent
Alberto Aquilani looks set to stay at Liverpool and fight for a place in Brendan Rodgers' first-team next season
Alberto Aquilani is to stay at Liverpool and fight for his place in Brendan Rodgers’ first-team, according to the midfielder’s agent.
The 28-year-old spent last season on loan to AC Milan after returning from another temporary spell at Juventus the season before – and the Italian has been linked with a permanent transfer to his native homeland in recent weeks.
However, agent Franco Zavaglia claims a move back to the San Siro would be “impossible” and says he is expecting the midfielder to stay at Anfield and attempt to earn a place in the Reds’ first-team.
“The player will stay at Liverpool, he has a contract,” Zavaglia told Calcionews24.com. “A move to Milan? I would say that at this point it is impossible. Other teams? I repeat, he will remain at Liverpool.”
The former Roma star was signed by former Reds boss Rafael Benítez in a £20m deal in 2009 but Aquilani struggled with injuries in his first season in the Premier League and was subsequently loaned out to Juventus for the 2010-11 campaign.
