Andre Villas-Boas is aiming to bring silverware to White Hart Lane after the Portuguese coach replaced Harry Redknapp in charge of Tottenham Hotspur.

The 34-year-old, who was sacked after nine months in charge of Chelsea earlier this year, says his focus is on guiding Spurs back onto “the road for titles”.

“It’s not a mission of restoring my reputation,” Villas-Boas said. “We have to try to build and put Tottenham on road for titles.

“Since 2008 we haven’t won anything. It’s right that we take the club forward by mixing with titles and success. Hopefully I can bring that to this football club.”

The new Spurs boss also admitted that the club are trying to tie down striker Emmanuel Adebayor to a permanent deal after the Manchester City forward impressed during his loan spell at Spurs last term.

The Togo striker netted 18 goals in 37 appearances for the north Londoners last season and reports on Wednesday claimed City may be willing to part company with the player for as little as £5m.

“Adebayor is another player who was important for last season and it will be a lie if I say we are not looking for a striker and Ade is part of that list,” Villas-Boas added.

Villas-Boas also confirmed that playmaker Luka Modrić is likely to leave White Hart Lane this summer, amid interest from Spanish champions Real Madrid.

“The interest that we have from various different clubs shows the importance of the player and what he’s done for Tottenham,” he said.

“It’s fair to say that the club respects Luka’s ambitions and his willingness to move on and he respects the fact that he’s an important player for the club and can help us move forward.

“Ongoing discussions will continue with these clubs until we reach an agreement which is acceptable for each party.”
