Villas-Boas deserves another chance! Twitter reacts to Spurs appointment
Tottenham confirm Andre Villas-Boas as their new manager, prompting a mixed response to the appointment on Twitter
Andre Villas-Boas has been named as Harry Redknapp’s replacement at Tottenham Hotspur on a three-year deal.
The 34-year-old Portuguese coach makes his return to Premier League management just four months after he was sacked by Chelsea, and Spurs’ appointment has received both praise and criticism on Twitter.
Here are some Tweets that caught our eye.
Celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) has his say: “Congratulations to Andre Villas-Boas and Spurs – a match made in mediocre non-entity heaven. #MindTheEvenBiggerGap”
Cameron M Mangan (@Camzy166) can see Villas-Boas’ reign coming to an unhappy end: “Andre Villas-Boas is just going to flop wherever he goes, he talks the talk but can’t walk the walk.”
While Deena Sathasivam (@deenaverdasco) still fails to understand why Redknapp was sacked: “Andre Villas-Boas back in Premier League as Tottenham manager, tough luck, Tottenham. Why would they sack Harry Redknapp?”
Anna M (@anmitchell1) is hoping Villas-Boas can be an adequate replacement for Redknapp: “Welcome Andre Villas-Boas – hope you can fill our Harry’s big shoes!”
But Stephen Sylvain (@sylvainstephen) reckons the Portuguese coach deserves another chance: “So happy for Andre Villas-Boas he deserves it.”
And David Horrex (@_davidhorrex) agrees: “I’m actually pleased with the appointment of Andre Villas-Boas, he deserves a chance. #COYS”
While Afiq Yusaini (@afiqyusaini) is similarly optimistic: “I wish Andre Villas-Boas the best of luck on his new job as Tottenham manager. May he prove his doubters wrong and have his reputation restored.”
Liverpool supporter Jack (@jwswam) reckons it will be a marriage made in heaven: “I think Andre Villas-Boas is a terrific choice for Spurs and I think he’ll do really well, unfortunately.”
But Venkat Ananth (@venkatananth) thinks Spurs have taken a risk: “Interesting appointment of Andre Villas-Boas by Tottenham. I will call it a huge gamble. Hope he gets time though.”
Meanwhile, Leon Watson (@LeonWatson) gives the new manager a piece of advice: “Andre Villas-Boas had better ditch that weird crouching thing on the touchline he does. Don’t like that. Otherwise I’m very excited. COYS!!!”
Yet Mohamed Elmi (@Elmi_17_Gooner) can’t fathom why Villas-Boas is getting a second chance: “How can Andre Villas-Boas get another big job after he flopped at Chelsea?”
And Zaki Naser (@ZakiNaser95) reckons Villas-Boas will have got the chop by November: “Andre Villas Boas is Tottenham Hotspurs’ new manager. I’m saying he’ll get sacked by November. #THFC”
Antonis Kon (@no1onsports) can see it all ending in tears: “I’m afraid Tottenham will be the end also of Andre Villas-Boas’ career. #thfc Hope I’m wrong!”
Jon Glanville (@jonglanville) has an interesting take on the changes at Spurs: “Getting rid of Harry Redknapp for Andre Villas-Boas is like trading a Ferrari in for a Ford Focus. #justsaying”
