Andy Johnson has hailed Queens Park Rangers’ “fantastic” summer signings as the Hoops continued their impressive pre-season form in Asia with a resounding 5-0 victory over Kelantan on Friday night.

The 31-year-old was not offered a new deal by Fulham boss Martin Jol after the former Crystal Palace striker scored 27 goals in 107 appearances for the Cottagers.

Johnson, who has eight England caps, moved to the Hoops on 1 July and was reunited with ex-Cottagers team-mate Bobby Zamora at Loftus Road.

QPR manager Mark Hughes has also signed Samba Diakite, Robert Green, Ryan Nelsen, and Park Ji-Sung, while Manchester United left-back Fábio da Silva has joined on a season-long loan deal.

“I have settled in brilliantly,” Johnson told QPR’s website.

“The new signings are fantastic, and go well with the great players that are already here. The squad have made the likes of myself, Ji-Sung Park, Rob Green, Fabio and all the new lads feel very welcome.

“It feels like a great squad. There is a great togetherness already and an excellent atmosphere around the place. I think it is going to be a great season for QPR.”

Johnson started just 13 Premier League games last season, and the striker was delighted to be handed the chance to gain valuable match fitness against Kelantan in Kuala Lumpur.

“I thought we kept the ball well today whereas in the first game we lost it a lot and were chasing our tails a little bit. We created some good chances and it was a great victory for us,” he added.

“It was important to get some more game time under my belt. I don’t think the plan was for me to play as long as I did, but with Djibril Cisse having to come off early it meant I had a longer spell out there.

“It’s really important for me to get that time on the pitch because we’ve all had eight weeks off, and I didn’t play the last four or five weeks of last season because of my situation with contracts and stuff, so I am delighted to be getting back out there again.

“Now I just need to get the first goal under my belt and then I can kick on from there.”
